Resource Grids: Extended hulls have special areas (often highlighted in yellow) that only allow resource rooms to be placed inside them. This includes gas/mineral storage rooms, warhouse and lifts and vents. But weapon rooms, armour and other non-resource rooms cannot be placed inside them. Take care when planning a layout in a extended hull.
